What Is Rolfing?
Rolfing, also known as Structural Integration, is a hands-on bodywork method developed by Dr. Ida Rolf.
It aims to bring more efficiency, alignment, and balance to the body by working directly with the connective tissues—the fascia. Through a combination of gentle, slow, or sometimes deeper touch, Rolfing helps to release and reorganize these tissues.
The result? A body that naturally finds better alignment in gravity, moves more efficiently, and experiences a sense of renewed vitality and well-being.
How Rolfing Works
Our bodies adapt to daily habits, injuries, surgeries, and stress, which can lead to compensation patterns and imbalances. These imbalances often manifest as tension, discomfort, or restricted movement.
Rolfing helps to unwind these habitual patterns, supporting the body to realign and return to its natural, balanced state.

Exploring Rolfing Sessions
There are several ways to experience Rolfing, depending on your goals and needs:
-
A Single Session
A targeted appointment to address one specific area or simply to explore what Rolfing feels like. -
3 Integration Sessions (Sessions 8–10 of the Ten Series)
Designed for simple imbalances or a focused introduction to the overall process. -
The Full Ten Series
A progressive journey that systematically rebalances the entire body. Each phase of the Ten Series has a specific focus:-
The Sleeve (Sessions 1–3)
Focus on freeing the surface layers of the skin, superficial fascia, and movement muscles. -
The Core (Sessions 4–7)
Address deeper patterns in postural muscles, connective tissue, and develop greater awareness of movement. -
Integration (Sessions 8–10)
Integrate the lower girdle (pelvis and legs) with the upper girdle (shoulders and arms) into a unified relationship around the body’s center line.

Why Try Rolfing?
People seek Rolfing for many different reasons, including:
-
Postural Efficiency: Enhance overall alignment within gravity for better support and ease.
-
Pain Relief: Unwind patterns of tension and compensation in tissues and the nervous system.
-
Greater Flexibility: Experience more freedom of movement and reduced resistance.
-
Deeper Body Awareness: Gain insight into how you move, carry stress, and navigate the world in your body.
-
Athletic & Performance Support: Enhance athletic performance, address imbalances, and prevent injuries.
-
Improved Breathing & Digestion: Structural ease can benefit organ function, leading to more efficient breath and healthier digestion.
Research shows that Rolfing can increase movement efficiency, reduce chronic stress, and even support neurological function.
Who Was Ida Rolf?
Dr. Ida P. Rolf (1896 – 1979) earned her PhD in Biochemistry and also studied math, physics, and yoga. Her research, combined with her personal healing journey, led her to discover how imbalances in the fascia profoundly affect a person’s overall health. She developed Rolfing as a way to restore vitality, ease, and well-being, not just by addressing pain, but by offering people a new way to move and feel in everyday life.
What I Love About Rolfing…
“Rolfing is a tool that, with attention and intention, allows us to bring all parts of ourselves into balance. The places we have felt weak, judged, or never properly integrated—whether it’s an old injury, a leg-length discrepancy that causes strain in the sacrum, or a feeling of disconnection from our physical power—can all be addressed with this method. Rolfing isn’t just about ‘fixing’ pain; it’s about discovering a new way to inhabit and experience your body.”
